You can help protect New Jersey's endangered and threatened species by sponsoring the World Series of Birding!

The World Series of Birding, an event organized by the New Jersey Audubon Society, is taking place on May 11, 2002. In this event, New Jersey birders team up across the state to tally as many species of birds as they can find by sight or sound. Their objective is to raise money for their favorite environmental cause, and to focus attention on the habitat needs of migrating birds.

For the first time in the history of the event, a student named Scott Haber has chosen a DEP program (Division of Fish & Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Species Program (ENSP)) as the beneficiary of the proceeds he raises.

Responsible for the conservation of New Jersey's endangered & threatened species, including the bald eagle, bog turtle, and barred owl, plus over 400 species of nongame wildlife, ENSP is funded primarily through private donations from the tax checkoff and proceeds from the Conserve Wildlife license plate.

You can help Scott achieve his fundraising goal (and help ENSP at the same time) by visiting his website www.angelfire.com/nj/BirderNJ. Pledges can be made per bird sighted, or a lump sum amount. The pledges must be made by May 10, using the form found on Scott's website. Checks are then sent to Scott by June 15. ALL PROCEEDS RAISED - not just a portion - go to help ENSP protect our state's endangered and threatened wildlife and their habitat.

You can visit www.njaudubon.org to find out more about the event itself.
