Presentation on "Sullivan's Campaign" at Ft. Decker
Port Jervis, New Jersey
1PM on Saturday, September 28, 2013
Fort Decker Museum
127 West Main St.
Port Jervis, New Jersey
MVHS will host Frank Salvati, who will speak about Gen. Washington ordering this campaign in response to the success of the Iroquois Confederacy in pushing back on colonial America's northern border during the Revolution. Among Native American tribes and nations allied with the British cause, the Iroquois proved themselves a most effective British ally, despite their Oneida and Tuscarora nations siding with the colonists. The Mohawk leader, Joseph Brant, had brought Tory and Indian raiding parties into our Minisink region and led successful attacks upon Wyoming [Wilkes-Barre], PA and Cherry Valley, NY. Thus, Washington tasked Gen. Sullivan to eliminate the Iroquois threat. Fort open til 4pm for tours.
