That picture is Sonny Rollins. For over half a century, this jazz superstar has handled the tenor sax with the majesty of a Greek god. Rollins’ early work with Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk established his career, but his recordings as a leader from the 1950s on made him a titan of the tenor sax, on par with John Coltrane and Lester Young.
