America’s Arbor Day was started in Nebraska in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton, who later became Secretary of Agriculture. Even over 100 years ago, Mr. Morton was concerned that too many trees were being cut down and not enough planted. He set out to make sure that Americans appreciated their native trees by creating Arbor Day. Countries around the world value their trees and honor them with their own holidays. Learn more about the American Arbor Day and its Native American roots, Israel’s TuB Shevat and England’s Shick-Shack Day through storytelling and crafts. This program is for ages 5 & up. Free to members. Registration Required
