Crane House and Shultz House
110 Orange Rd. and 30 N. Mountain Ave
Montclair, New Jersey
Montclair Historical Society has responded to public demand by opening the doors of both of its house museums on regular Sunday hours. Visitors can enjoy the 1796 Israel Crane House Museum and its Museum Shop plus the 1896 Shultz House Museum, called “Evergreens,” all in one Sunday.
“Evergreens” at 30 North Mountain Ave. is now open April through October on the first and third Sunday of the month at 3:00 P.M. for guided tours. This single tour of the day lasts just an hour, but visitors are sure to return to the 19th century wrap-around porch for future relaxing special events.
Located just blocks away at 108 Orange Road, The Israel Crane House Museum offers guided tours year-round on Sundays from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., with the last tour starting at 3:00 P.M. Special features of this site are the hearth kitchen and a blacksmith shop, manned most Sundays by resident blacksmith Sean Burns. The Museum Shop, also located at 108 Orange Road, has added special spring items, and is also open Sundays from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. year-round.
Group tours require reservations by calling 973-744-1796 Mon-Thurs. 10-2
