The all-volunteer Master Tree Stewards of Union County is welcoming tree enthuiasts to its free 2008 training and certification program. The mission of the Master Tree Stewards is to visit 4th-grade classrooms throughout Union County to help children learn to value, preserve, and protect the county's treescape. No teaching experience or detailed knowledge of trees is required. The training program consists of 13 weekly sessions beginning on September 10, mainly "hands-on" at local nature preserves. Trainees will also learn how to conduct a 4th-grade class in fun games and exercises about trees. The entire course is free of charge but an application form is required. To obtain a form, contact Union County 4-H Agent James Nichnadowicz at nichnadowicz@aesop.rutgers.edu, or call 908-654-9854, x2236.
