Have you been dreaming of a more attractive and carefree yard? A rain garden may be the answer for you. This simple landscaping trick allows you to capture and use more rainwater in your garden, and achieve a big savings in your water bills. Planted with hardy native perennials, rain gardens are inexpensive and practically maintenance-free. They can also be attractive habitats for birds and butterflifes. Another plus is keeping harmful chemicals away from your home and family: rain gardens thrive without herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. The class will be taught by experts from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. It includes a tour of the Fanwood Library's own rain garden. There is no charge, but pre-registration is required by calling 908-654-9854.
