Ben Franklin’s Glass Armonica Performances by Cecilia Brauer
Saturday, December 13 at 1:30 & 4:00 PM
The Glass Armonica was invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761. Franklin placed graduated size bowls with holes and corks in the center onto a horizontal spindle, and could rotate them by a fly-wheel and a foot pedal. His moistened fingers rubbed the edges to produce the beautiful sound. Cecilia Brauer, an accomplished pianist, is one of only a handful of musicians in the world performing on the instrument. She gives demonstration programs called "Ben Franklin and the Armonica" and "Ben Franklin, the Musician" at museums, historical sites, libraries, social organizations, etc. These have included The Metropolitan Opera, The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, Independence National Historical Park, Corning Glass Museum, Carnegie Museum, and Franklin Institute. Brauer will perform only twice at the Israel Crane House. The Nathaniel Crane House, currently used as a Museum Shop, will be offering a 50% off sale!
Tickets are $20 per person; seats are very limited.
