Winter Solstice Celebration at Harmony Hall
Sloatsburg, New York
2 - 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 21, 2008
Harmony Hall - Jacob Sloat House
15 Liberty Rock Road
Sloatsburg, New York
Area residents are invited to celebrate the passing of the Winter solstice with story-telling, and a multimedia event that presents the area’s stunning winter landscapes in paintings, photographs and music. The event will be held in the drawing room of one of Rockland County, New York’s most significant, on-going, historical restoration projects – Harmony Hall – and is free.
Musician and noted nature photographer Geoff Welch is renowned regionally for his original musical compositions and exquisite photographs of the landscapes of the Ramapo Pass and highlands. In addition to his own work, the multimedia presentation will focus on paintings from the famed Hudson River School - a mid-19th century American landscape art movement. Welch will be joined by local story teller, Chuck Stead, who is known throughout the region for his local lore and tales. Stead is also an established author and local television personality.
