To those interested: I have found additional info on Snead Iron Works. They were founded in Louisville Kentucky in 1849, and they fashioned mostly ornamental iron work. In 1890 they were awarded a government contract to replace shelving in the Library of Congress and they produced shelving for the Vatican Library in Rome, Sterling Library at Yale U. and the National Archives Building in Washington D.C. They also produced the iron stairway in the Washington Monument all while in Jersey City N.J. This was between 1897 and 1940 This information was taken from Collectors Guide to Bookends written by Louis Kuritsky and published by Collectors Books a Div. of Schroeder Publishing Co. Jerry Snead
