Shippen Manor is honored to have the members of Co. F, 27th Reg't NJ Volunteer Infantry (Bailey's Boys) and the 27th Reg't Surgical Unit for Civil War Day at the Manor. Camp will be set up outside the lower level drive of the Manor, so look for their tents on the lawn! There will be two rifle musket firing demonstrations down by the lower level porches at 1pm and 3pm. (The Manor will pause all tours during the firing demonstrations and resume once they are complete.) The last tour of Shippen Manor will begin at 3:30pm. The 27th was a Union regiment that was mustered into service at Camp Frelinghuysen in Newark, NJ on 3 Sept 1862 before joining the Army of the Potomac. Their motto was "Character Untarnished and Habits Unpolluted." Upon completion of the firing demonstrations, the Regiment requests that all children join them for a drill (using wooden rifles). More information... The driveway around Shippen Manor will be closed to motor vehicles during our event. This is to ensure the safety of our visitors, staff, and reenactors. Handicap accessible parking is located near the entrance of our upper drive along Belvidere Avenue. Additional parking is available on Washington Ave. (past the Oxford Colonial Methodist Church) and the municipal lot behind Wall Street (entrance is by Nikki's Nail Nook). The boardwalk from the handicap accessible parking leads to the entrance of the Museum. Tour schedule will be posted outside of the entrance. This event is free to the public. Everyone is welcome! This is a rain or shine event. Note: Also, according to county park rules, pets are neither permitted on the site or in the museum, with exception to service dogs.
