Join Eagle Rock Reservation author and West Orange Township historian Joseph Fagan for the first ever walking tour of Eagle Rock. This tour is free and open to the public but registration is required and will be limited to 25 persons. Email: jfagan@westorange.org to sign up. DATE: Saturday June 26th TIME 11:00 a.m. The tour will last a little over an hour around the loop of Crescent Drive. It will explore the historic talking points along the route that include: • The evolution of Eagle Rock from a resort during the 1870s to the formation of the Essex County Park Commission in 1895. • The construction of the current day spiked concrete wall. • The former Casino Building now used as a restaurant used by Thomas Edison during World War I for top secret experiments by the Naval Consulting Board. • The trolley that served Eagle Rock from 1894 to 1924 and the famous 100 Steps to the top. • Llewellyn Haskell's former home the Eyrie and its connection to Llewellyn Park. • The true story of Phoebe Paullin's unsolved murder and its enduring legend as a ghost story. • The Eagle Rock Hill Climb (early auto race whose finish line was in Eagle Rock). • The 1957 realignment of Eagle Rock Avenue that created today's park entrance. • The history behind the Eagle Rock 911 Memorial.
