The time for the celebration is 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at the Furnace. In addition to our interpretive panel dedication, the Colonial Musketeers Junior Fife & Drum will entertain our visitors will colonial era music. Since this portion of our Sunday will be spent at the Furnace, parking will be available in the following locations: 1. Washington Avenue (past Cinder St. and the Furnace)-- please do not block driveways and look for restrictive parking signs. 2. Kent Street Parking Area (not on Kent Street, but the town lot). 3. Oxford Central School (parking area) 4. Municipal lot behind "In the Nick of Time" off Wall Street. The museum parking will open for tours at 1 P.M. Please be aware of available parking, restricted and no parking areas in town. On Wall Street, there is a 2-hour limit along the grassy triangle. There is no parking on Belvidere Avenue or Washington Ave at the bottom of the hill at Shippen. Use caution when crossing the street, please. ABOUT THE CELEBRATION This will be a small celebration of the Furnace with a new interpretive panel to be installed. The Furnace operated first in 1743 (first blast) through the colonial era, into the 19th c. with the Henrys and Scrantons. By 1884, the furnace was no longer operational and was blasted out for the final time. Although most of the furnace structure no longer exists, the stack and casting house still do. At this time, the interior of the casting house is closed to the public. Following the sign dedication, the museum will be open for tours of the main floor only, beginning at 1 P.M. The tours are free to the public and our museum is open the first and second Sundays of the month until December. We try to keep our tours to a reasonable size. Thank you for being patient if there is a line. The last tour of the day begins at 3:30 P.M. ENTRANCES, ACCESSIBILITY & PARKING FOR THE MUSEUM: Entrances accessible from boardwalk by Belvidere Ave. parking area (1 is an ADA Accessible entrance). We have limited parking on site-- a couple of accessible parking spaces in the Belvidere Ave. lot nearest the entrance of the boardwalk and limited parking in the back lot at the museum, which opens for the museum at 1 P.M. If the lot is filled, please park in town and walk over, we're a short distance away. While on the driveway, use caution and please drive slowly-- we will have staff, volunteers and visitors in and outside of the building. --------------------------------------- There is no admission to the museum. This is a family-friendly historic site. Limited accessible parking available on site. As per Warren County Parks Regulations, certified service animals are permitted to enter the museum with their handlers. Other pets are not permitted inside of the museum. Thank you for picking up after your pets. The Shippen Manor and Oxford Furnace historic sites are part of the Warren County Parks System and are an alcohol, drug and tobacco-free site.
