Challenge Hike - Wild Turkey on the Rocks
Ringwood, New Jersey
9:30 am til 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 5, 2003
NJAS' Weis Ecology Center
150 Snake Den Road
Ringwood, New Jersey
Don Weise from New Jersey Audubon Society’s Weis Ecology Center leads a group called the Weis Wyanokie Wanderers on strenuous monthly hikes that visit some of the Highlands’ most beautiful areas. These hikes are for athletic people in good cardiovascular shape as the terrain is steep and the pace is fast. The hike for January features a visit to Pyramid and Turkey Mountains while the crowds are small and the icicles are big. This figure eight circuit hike includes scenic views and visits to Tripod Rock, Whale Head, Bear Rock, 100 Steps, Valhalla Glen and more. Weather conditions will be the deciding factor for exact route and distance (between 6.5 and 8.5 miles). Participants must dress appropriately (wind/water/snow proof layers are necessary) and pack lunch and water. The hike meets at 9:30 am at Weis Ecology Center on Sunday, January 5, 2003.
The cost of the hike is $8 per person, with a $3 discount for members of the New Jersey Audubon Society. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. To register mail your name, address, phone number, the number of participants and payment to: NJAS’ Weis Ecology Center, 150 Snake Den Road, Ringwood, NJ 07456. For more information, or to register with a credit card, contact the Weis Ecology Center office at (973) 835-2160 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
