Fort Decker Museum of History
127 West Main Street
Port Jervis, New Jersey

Minisink Valley Historical Society volunteers will once again open their Fort Decker Museum of History site, located at 127 West Main Street in Port Jervis, on Sat. August 29th between 1PM & 4PM. The 1793 stone house is one of the most historic buildings in Port Jervis and its surrounding area. Stop by and tour the 18th century stone fort to discover the Tri-State area's heritage.

Ft. Decker was built by Frederick Haynes prior to 1760 and burned during Joseph Brant's attack on the Minisink in 1779. Martinus Decker rebuilt it in 1793. The building was used as a hotel in the 1820's during the building of the D&H Canal. Afterwards it was a private residence until the Society purchased it in 1958. MVHS created the museum to foster and help promote public knowledge of and an interest in local and national history. Its gift shop has assorted items and books related to the area and its history.
