Civil War Drill Hall Theatre, A Nat'l Historic Landmark
130 Grand Ave & Oakdene Ave
Leonia, New Jersey
CANDIDA tells the story of an empowered wife who's forced to choose between her steadfast clergyman husband & the passionate young poet who's fallen in love with her. It deals with some basic issues of relationships: What's a good marriage? What's the meaning of married love? And who's in charge here anyway? Set in London, 1894, the play is still very contemporary & resonates with today's modern audiences. Shaw mixes vivid characters & witty lines with social concerns. He called it simply "a pleasant play," & it was one of his own favorites. It's really very funny, & today is one of Shaw's most-produced plays. Show dates April 1- 17, 3 weekends.
