Phillipsburg Railroad Historians Centerville & Southwestern Night. Visit the Phillipsburg Railroad Historians Museum and ride on the Miniature Railroad. The Museum contains displays of various railroad artifacts as well as a small Gift Shop, while outdoors the Museum has vintage railroad equipment on display that will be restored. The Centerville & Southwestern Railroad is a 9 7/16" gauge railroad that was begun in 1938 on the Becker Dairy Farm in Roseland, NJ. It featured the second all-welded locomotive boiler built in the US. The first �revenue� trip was in 1948. By the time the railroad was retired in 1972, the C&S had grown to be a little over a 2 mile trip and included steam engine #1501, 2 diesels, #1502 and #1503, 17 Pullman type cars, 15 reefer & box cars, a ballast car and a caboose. Everything, with the exception of the #1501, was packed up and moved to Monmouth County Park System where the equipment was tarped and placed in an unused horse barn. The track was placed into stacks where everything sat for twenty years before it was discovered and rescued by the Phillipsburg Railroad Historians. This gem is today being restored to its once grand status in the miniature railroad community.
