Continuing, Saturday evenings: Free Stargazing and Lectures at Jenny Jump State Forest. The United Astronomy Clubs of New Jersey (UACNJ) will host free public stargazing and lectures on astronomy every Saturday evening through October 28 at the UACNJ Greenwood Observatory at Jenny Jump State Forest. The UACNJ is a consortium of more than a dozen astronomy clubs in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania that help promote and support amateur astronomy. The Observatory is located 1,100 feet above sea level and is one of the few dark sky locations left in the state. The facility has a 16-inch Newtonian telescope in its Greenwood Observatory and maintains an education center with a lecture hall. The lectures begin at promptly at 8pm and are intended for the general public. Upcoming topics and speakers are as follows: 7/08: Stellar Spectroscopy and Classification with George Bottarini of AAI; 7/15: Telescopes: An Eye on the Sky with Joe Molnar of MMAS; 7/22: A Personal Tour of the Universe with David Pontzer of NWJAA; 7/29: Life in Outer Space with Karl Hricko of AAI. Following the lectures, weather permitting, the observatories and telescopes will be open for stargazing. The UACNJ's gift shop will also be open after the lectures.
