The World Series of Birding is sponsored by the New Jersey Audubon Society. This event gives teams or individuals 24 hours to identify as many species of birds as possible all over the state. Last years winners spotted 214 species. This event takes place in May because of the large number of migratory birds at this time. Teams and individuals sign up sponsors, usually $1 per species, with the money going to any conservation charity they designate. Last year, $600,000 dollars was raised. The deadline for entering the competition is April 15.
